as220_printshopAS220 is a non-profit organization which encourages all people, in particular Rhode Islanders, to find their creativity. Through music, art, theater, courses, and food, AS220 has so much to offer locals and visitors alike and they are one of the forces that keeps Down City lively and interesting. Since you might not have time for a class, head over for some great local music one night and enjoy your surroundings.
In fact, As220 is where Leslie first learned to silkscreen! She would spend many evenings in the basement of the Empire Street location making Zox posters. Sometime in the mid 2000s, the Empire Street basement got flooded and soon after, AS220 made an improved printshop in their second location: The Dreyfus. The current printshop is in its third location in the Mercantile Building and has a print residency if you’re interested in checking it out. If you’re lucky, you ask nicely, or you show them your brayer tattoo, you printmakers might be able to sneak a peak of the much bigger and better print facilities off of Washington Street in the Mercantile Block.
There are galleries to view local art. Leslie had her first real exhibition at AS220 right before moving to Philadelphia.
